One of our favorite places to photograph couples for engagement sessions is Big Talbot Island, which is a little known gem just south of Amelia Island, Florida. The woods have a beachy - prehistoric fee with their oversize ferns and large, moss covered trees. Moving through the woods and down to the beach will put you in the middle of Boneyard Beach. I promise it's not as scary as it sounds! As trees fall off the short cliff into the water, they stay on the beach as they become gigantic pieces of driftwood. ON TOP of all of that we had the wonderful opportunity of photographing Kaileigh and Andrew's engagement session. They are a cute couple who are clearly head over heels in love. Our session was filled with laughter, silly faces, and cuddling. We are excited to share some of our favorites from their engagement session and can't wait for their wedding in March!
Lacey & Brandon | Wedding
It was a beautiful late summer day on Amelia Island for Brandon and Lacey's wedding! Both Maryland natives, they moved down to Jacksonville several years ago for Brandon's service in the Navy. With an interesting turn of events, that had both sides of the family excited, he was relocated back to Maryland earlier this year! They already had made their wedding plans at the Golf Club of Amelia Island. An amazing venue tucked between Amelia Island's famous Ritz Carlton and one of the many treasured canopy roads of the island. We managed to get outside several times throughout the day for some extraordinary portraits. The love between these two was palpable and it really shows through their photos, we are excited to share a few, enjoy!

Devin & Jasmine | Engaged
It was a sunny, but sleepy morning a few weeks ago for Jasmine and Devin's lifestyle engagement session. It wasn't raining (a common theme this May) but we started in their home. A charming turn of the century row house that they call home, is updated with modern conveniences but its character remains intact. When we first began talking about an engagement session, I asked, "What places are important to you two?" without missing a beat they said their home, favorite coffee shop, and the places they frequent in their neighborhood. Having a connection to not only one another, but also the backdrop for your photos gives that extra meaning which makes them that much more special when you look back. It was a great morning, we can't wait for their wedding next spring!

Rain On Your Wedding Day
A rainy wedding day is never, well almost never what a couple hopes for on their wedding day. Its darker, usually colder, slippery... the list goes on. On the flip side the light is soft, the ground glistens, the curious guests are non-existent, the mood is intimate and there's that extra closeness between a couple as they cuddle to stay warm. As a wedding and engagement photographer the show must go on rain or shine. Working quickly and efficiently while still maintaining a high quality level of work is essential. This weekend it was exceptionally rainy through the mid-Atlantic, but our couples stayed more than positive and we pulled off some great shots, here's a few of them!

Carlos & Yesenia | Engaged
We could have not asked for a better spring: great couples, weather, and engagement sessions! We had the pleasure of photographing Yesenia and Carlos' engagement session in Old Town, Alexandria. It was a beautiful, warm, sunny afternoon, that was surprisingly low key for a week day in Alexandria! When they were 15 years young, Carlos and Yesenia met in high school, became best friends, and now are tying the knot this July. Alexandria is their hometown, and they love everything that is very DC as they call it. Zoe, their fur baby even made a cameo for a few shots! Engagement photography is a great time to get to know our couples, have some fun, and try new things! We are super excited to be the photographers for their big day that is right around the corner!

Jeff & Paige | Engaged
It's hard to beat the spring weather in St. Augustine, Florida, especially when it comes to engagement sessions outside! We had the pleasure of photographing Paige and Jeff in historic St. Augustine and the nearby beach. Both natives of Florida, who now call Lake County home (outside of Orlando) they fit right in to the laid-back, go with the flow vibe that north Florida is known for. We started the afternoon outside of the Lightner Museum, wandered our way through the streets (with their Labs, Mia and Cali), and wrapped up for the last bit of sunlight on St. Augustine Beach. We are excited to photograph their wedding in less than a year at the Bowling Oaks Plantation outside of Jacksonville, Florida! Congratulations Jeff & Paige!

Devan & Justin | Married
It was a beautiful, sunny, warm February day for Devan and Justin's wedding; perfect for wedding photography! The whole wedding day took place in Nocatee, Florida; a new development on Florida's first coast. Devan and Justin, both Tennessee natives have lived in the area for several years, and chose it as the perfect place for their wedding. Venturing out of Nocatee's Crosswater Hall, which is complete with bridal suites, a reception hall with fireplaces, hardwood floors, and a full kitchen, we found some quiet places, including Nocatee Preserve. It's sometimes a challenge on the wedding day to find a peaceful place for portraits, but the preserve didn't disappoint! The reception was full of energy with friends, a majority of which they've had since childhood. We snuck Devan and Justin out of their reception for a few minutes for some spectacular night bridal portraits! We capped off the night with a sparkler exit. For their honeymoon, Justin and Devan recently purchased a full size RV and are currently on a 6 month tour of the United States visiting all of the places they've always wanted to! We are so excited (and jealous) of Devan and Justin's trip! Congratulations you two! (see below for the awesome vendors who worked on this wedding with us)

Steve & Elaine | Engaged
Happy Spring! We had the pleasure of kicking off the spring wedding and engagement photography season with Steve & Elaine and Washington DC's famous cherry blossoms. Planning the exact timing for cherry blossom peak bloom is an art in itself. The forecast went back and forth leading up to our session day. We were slightly early, but managed to find the beautiful Magnolia trees at the George Mason Memorial in full bloom. In addition to spectacular light, engagement sessions during the week, at sunrise, offer an opportunity to take photos while few others are out, making for an intimate setting in a big city. We are excited to be the wedding photographers for Steve & Elaine's wedding this June!

Yoni & Yamicia | Engaged
Wrapping up our last engagement session of 2015, we had the pleasure of photographing Yoni and Yamicia in St. Augustine, Florida. The weather was great, the crowds were light, and Yoni and Yamicia were dressed beautifully for formal engagement photos at sunset. Our photos started off at the Lightner Museum, a St. Augustine classic. We then walked through the Spanish Quarter, and finally wrapped up at the St. Augustine Fort, or formally known as the Castillo de San Marcos. Yoni and Yamicia are getting married in the Dominican Republic this February and we are really excited to join them for their big day! For more visit: www.bowtiephoto.com
